The standout spec: an enclosure rated for the worst wall in the house
Enclosure ratings get quoted casually and mean specific things. NEMA 3R, the rating on a lot of perfectly good chargers, covers falling rain, sleet and external ice formation — the assumption is that the unit is on a wall that gets weather but not a beating. NEMA 4 goes further: windblown dust, splashing water, and water directed from a hose. The install, and the circuit that decides it
The MaxiCharger is a hardwired unit, so an electrician terminates it directly into a dedicated 240V circuit rather than fitting an outlet. Buy itif the charger is going somewhere genuinely hostile — an exposed exterior wall, a coastal or salted climate, real winters — and you also want a modern app and the full 50 amps. That specific combination is rare; most weather-first chargers give up connectivity to get there, and most connected chargers assume a sheltered wall. Skip itin three cases.
